After a run of nearly four years, the MKE123.org nonprofit collaboration and social media platform was retired from service on August 1, 2015.

The online landscape changed rapidly since MKE123 was launched in 2011. New tools and upgrades to services such as Facebook Groups and Twitter made for a very competitive environment. Usage numbers for MKE123 and the reach of the website simply did not rise to a level to ensure sustainability after the demonstration period.

MKE123 was a tremendous learning experience, and for many nonprofits served as their first platform for online communication, resource sharing and collaboration. The MKE123 project also reached hundreds of individuals with resources and training on the effective use of social media for social good.

The Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee thanks the hundreds of organizations and more than 2,000 individuals who joined the MKE123 community. Special thanks go to:
  • Bader Philanthropies for inspiration, funding support and hands-on involvement, from the initial concept through development, launch, and operations into this year.
  • Matt Brown, the first MKE123 Coordinator, for his leadership and vision in creating the website. Matt also led the social media training efforts at the Nonprofit Center, work that was ably picked up by another former NPC staffer, Laurel Turner.
  • Gary Wong and Spin Group for developing the website and going the extra mile to maintain it and build upgrades to better serve MKE123 members.

After considerable research and surveys of MKE123 community members, the Nonprofit Center decided to take the website offline while exploring the creation of new online resources for nonprofits on other platforms.
