After a run of nearly four years, the MKE123.org nonprofit collaboration and social media platform was retired from service on August 1, 2015.
The online landscape changed rapidly since MKE123 was launched in 2011. New tools and upgrades to services such as Facebook Groups and Twitter made for a very competitive environment. Usage numbers for MKE123 and the reach of the website simply did not rise to a level to ensure sustainability after the demonstration period. MKE123 was a tremendous learning experience, and for many nonprofits served as their first platform for online communication, resource sharing and collaboration. The MKE123 project also reached hundreds of individuals with resources and training on the effective use of social media for social good.
