Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee
2015 Nonprofit Excellence Award - Diversity
Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee was formed in 2001 with the vision of showcasing Hispanic talent in the Milwaukee area and providing professionals with the support they need to reach increasing levels of success in their careers. From day one, HPGM has displayed a commitment to diversity through their work with individuals and businesses to address the community’s need for diverse talent and representation.
HPGM has experienced tremendous growth since developing new strategic goals in 2012 that included a focus on the graduation rates and preparedness of Hispanic college students. Student membership increased by 47% in the past year alone with the launch of new student chapters at five local universities.
In 2015, HPGM launched the Consortium of Leading Employee Organizations (CLEO) Milwaukee, created as a result of the growing trend of employee resource and diversity groups within companies. These resource and diversity groups have a great impact on local, national and global businesses. CLEO Milwaukee allows these groups to showcase their efforts, learn from each other, and discuss the current landscape of diverse talent in the region.
“At HPGM, we believe that a commitment to diversity and the upward mobility of Hispanics is not only the right thing to do, but necessary to the growth and success of our region, state, and country,” said the award nominator.
In the past three years, Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee has transformed their programs to meet the needs of a growing, diverse membership base as well as corporate partners looking to attract talent. They are pleased to report that 27% of their membership is non-Hispanic.
“We would not be able to promote diversity efforts if we were not also a diverse organization ourselves,” said the nominator. “I truly believe that HPGM is setting the standard for nonprofit organizations in our region.”
